Pearlcuts turns your photos into cinematic videos. This policy explains what we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.

1. Overview
Pearlcuts (“Pearlcuts,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a mobile application that turns the photos you upload into short, cinematic AI-generated videos. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.
This policy applies to the Pearlcuts iOS and Android apps and the backend services that power them. It does not apply to third-party services we integrate with (such as Apple, Google, or your app store), which have their own privacy policies.
By creating an account or using Pearlcuts, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Information we collect
You can browse, purchase, and generate videos as a guest. When you first use the App we create an anonymous account on your device so your wallet and library work; this does not require you to share any personal information. We collect the personal information below only when you choose to sign in, or when you create videos, make purchases, or contact us.
Account information (optional sign-in)
Signing in is optional and lets you sync your coins, subscription, and videos across devices. Pearlcuts uses “Sign in with Google” and “Sign in with Apple.” When you sign in, we receive and store a limited profile from the provider:
- Your display name and email address.
- Your profile photo or avatar, if available.
- Which provider you used (Google or Apple) and a provider-issued account identifier used to recognize you on return.
- For Sign in with Apple, your full name is captured only the first time you sign in and is never overwritten afterward. If you choose Apple’s private email relay, we only ever see the relay address.
Content you provide
- Source photos you upload to generate a video, along with basic technical details about each file (type, size, and dimensions).
- Generation settings you choose for each video, such as template, aspect ratio, length, and resolution.
- Generated videos created from your photos, which appear in your library until you delete them.
Purchase, subscription, and coin-wallet information
Pearlcuts uses an in-app coin wallet. Generating a video spends coins. You can add coins by subscribing to an auto-renewable plan (which adds a recurring coin allowance each period) or by buying one-time coin packs.
- Your coin balance and a record of coin activity (purchases, subscription coin grants, rewards, generation charges, and refunds).
- Your subscription status and plan (for example, weekly or monthly), its renewal date, and the store identifiers we use to validate renewals — so we can add your recurring coins and show your plan in the App.
- Purchase confirmations and receipts that we validate with Apple or Google to credit your wallet. Payments are processed by the app stores — we never receive or store your full payment card or bank details.
Device, usage, and diagnostic information
- App version, platform (iOS or Android), and general device information.
- A push-notification token if you enable notifications, so we can let you know when a video is ready.
- Log and diagnostic data — including IP address, request timing, and error reports — used to operate the service, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
Support communications
If you email our support team, we keep your messages and contact details so we can respond and improve our help resources.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the core service — generate videos from your photos and keep them in your library.
- Create and secure your account and recognize you across sessions and devices.
- Operate the coin wallet, validate in-app purchases, apply rewards, and process charges and refunds. Coins are only charged for a successful generation; failed or cancelled generations leave your balance untouched.
- Send you service messages, including notifications about your generations, and — only if you opt in — promotional messages and new template announcements. You control these in Profile › Notifications.
- Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce rate limits, and protect our users and services.
- Diagnose problems, monitor performance, and improve features and quality.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
4. How AI generation works
To create your video, Pearlcuts sends the photo(s) you upload and your style settings to our third-party AI generation provider, xAI (the maker of the Grok models), which processes them and returns a video. This is the core function of the app. It happens only after you grant permission and submit a generation — the app asks for your explicit consent before any photo is sent to the AI provider.
- We share the minimum needed to fulfill your request — your source image(s) and the generation parameters.
- We do not use your photos or videos to build advertising profiles about you, and we do not sell them.
- xAI processes this content under a contract that restricts its use to delivering the Pearlcuts service and requires it to protect your data with safeguards comparable to those described in this policy. It may not use your photos for advertising or to train unrelated models, and we do not sell them.
Generated videos are entertainment content created from your inputs. You are responsible for the photos you upload and for how you use the videos you create.
5. Face data
Pearlcuts lets you upload photos that may contain faces in order to generate a video. We want to be explicit about how this is handled.
- No facial recognition or biometrics. We do not perform facial recognition, face matching, identity or age verification, face tracking, or liveness detection, and we do not create, derive, or store face templates, faceprints, or other biometric identifiers. We never use facial features to identify you.
- What we process. A photo you choose to upload is treated only as image content. Any faces it contains are processed solely as part of that image to generate the video you requested — they are not analyzed for identity.
- Use. Uploaded photos are used only to generate your requested video. They are not used for advertising, profiling, or to train models for any unrelated purpose, and we do not sell them.
- Sharing & storage. To create the video, the photo is sent to our third-party AI generation provider under contractual terms that restrict use to delivering the service, and is stored on our secure cloud storage (and served via our CDN).
- Retention & control.Uploaded photos are kept only as long as needed to generate your video and for a short period afterward. You can delete your uploaded photos and generated videos at any time in Profile › Privacy & data, and full account/data deletion is completed within 30 days.
7. Data retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate business or legal purposes.
- Source photosare retained to complete your generation and for a short period afterward, and you can delete them at any time from Profile › Privacy & data.
- Generated videos remain in your library until you delete them or delete your account.
- Financial and transaction records (your coin ledger and purchase history) may be retained for up to seven years to meet tax, accounting, audit, and legal requirements — even after account deletion. Where we retain these after you delete your account, we remove or de-identify the personal details tied to them.
- Operational and security logs are kept for a limited period for diagnostics and abuse prevention.
8. Your privacy choices
You can manage your data directly in the app:
- Delete uploaded photos— remove your source images from our servers (Profile › Privacy & data).
- Delete generated videos — empty your video library at any time.
- Notification preferences — turn job updates, promotions, and new-template alerts on or off independently (Profile › Notifications).
- Request full data deletion or delete your account — see the next section.
You can also manage system-level notification permissions in your device settings.
9. Account and data deletion
When you delete your account or request full data deletion, we begin removing your personal information from our systems. Your profile and library are deactivated immediately, and the full erasure is completed on an ongoing basis — generally within 30 days.
- We email you when we receive your deletion request and again when it is complete.
- Some records may be retained where the law requires it — most notably financial transaction records, which we keep in a de-identified form as described in “Data retention” above.
- Deletion is permanent. Any unused coins are forfeited and cannot be restored or refunded.
10. Your regional rights
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information. We honor these rights regardless of location where practical.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom & Switzerland (GDPR)
If you are in these regions, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. We rely on the following legal bases: performance of our contract with you (providing the app), your consent (e.g. promotional notifications), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and improving the service), and compliance with legal obligations.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents may have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, to request deletion or correction, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls or contact us at support@pearlcuts.com. We will verify your request and respond as required by applicable law. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit, scoped and time-limited upload links, hashed authentication tokens, and access controls on our systems.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your sign-in provider account secure, since it controls access to Pearlcuts.
12. Children's privacy
Pearlcuts is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@pearlcuts.com and we will take steps to delete it.
13. International data transfers
Pearlcuts is operated using infrastructure and service providers that may be located in countries other than your own. When we transfer personal information across borders, we use appropriate safeguards — such as standard contractual clauses — where required by applicable law.
14. Third-party sign-in and services
Pearlcuts relies on Google and Apple for sign-in and on the Apple App Store and Google Play for purchases. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. For material changes, we will provide additional notice where required, such as in the app. Your continued use of Pearlcuts after an update means you accept the revised policy.
